Down closed down -0.30% and Nasdaq closed down -0.13%.

Sensex up 63 points

Global Markets:
The Asian markets closed mixed today. Hang Seng closed up +0.10%, TSEC closed down -0.39%, Nikkei closed up +0.74% and Sensex closed up +0.60%.
The European market closed down +0.44%.

Indian Market:
With positive global cues coming in , Sensex opened with a positive note and continued to rally and touched a days high of 10,854, but then there was trigger of profit booking starting at about 02:45 which pulled down sensex which finally closed at 10,743 up +63 or +0.60%


- BSE IT surged up +1.40%, BSE BANKEX gained +1.30%, BSE TECk gained +1.29%, While BSE SmallCap closed up +1.31% and BSE MidCap moved up +0.60%.
- Out of the total 2514 stocks traded today 922 declined, 1519 advanced and 73 were unchanged.

PSU stocks rally, Sensex up 124 points

Global Markets:
The Asian markets closed up. Hang Seng closed up +1.80%, TSEC closed up +1.30%, Nikkei closed up +2% and Sensex closed up +1.17%.
The European market closed up +0.48%.

Indian Market:
Sensex opened with a positive note and continued tioll noon, Sensex was forced in to negative zone and to days low 10,590 when SBI announced a net profit drop of 27%. Sensex recovered from this low level and finally closed the day at 10,741 up +124 or +1.17%.


- BSE PSU surged up +1.93%, BSE AUTO gained +1.86%, While BSE SmallCap closed up +1.23% and BSE MidCap moved up +1.13%.
- Out of the total 2483 stocks traded today 954 declined, 1450 advanced and 79 were unchanged.

ONGC Q1, Net up 24%; announces 1:2 bonus

ONGC Q1 net profit for the quarter ended June 2006 rose 24% to Rs 4,119 crore when compared to Rs 3,319 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

According to a release issued by ONGC to the BSE today, the company's Q1 total income grew 34.5% to Rs 15,023 crore in June 2006 from Rs 11,168 crore in June 2005.

Futher the company's board has recommended a bonus issue of 1:2 equity shares, ie one free share for every shareholder holding two shares. The proposal will be placed before AGM for shareholder approval.

Good numbers from Bharti AirTel and ONGC moves up Sensex, gains by 201 points

Global Markets:
The Asian markets closed mixed. Hang Seng closed up +0.20%, TSEC closed down -0.81%, Nikkei closed down -0.23% and Sensex closed up +1.94%.
The European market closed up +0.21%.

Indian Market:
Sensex opened with a positive note but soon dipped in to negative zone and touched days low of 10,363. Buying resumed as Bharti AirTel announced good number and this was further fueled at 02:00 when ONGC also announed good results. Sensex finally closed at 10,617.27 up +201 or +1.94%.


- BSE FMCG surged up +2.67%, BSE TECk surged up +2.66%, BSE Oil&Gas moved up by +2.37%, While BSE SmallCap closed up +2.35% and BSE MidCap moved up +2.10%.
- Out of the total 2467 stocks traded today 705 declined, 1686 advanced and 76 were unchanged.

Tech Mahindra IPO in Rs 315-365 band

Tech Mahindra will be offering 1.27 crore shares of Rs 10 each in its initial public offering (IPO) through the book building process.

The company has fixed the price band of Rs 315-365. The offer opens on August 1, 2006 and will close on on August 4, 2006.

Kotak Mahindra Capital and ABN Amro Securities India are the lead managers for the IPO.

The company plans to issue the proceeds from the IPO for expansion of its current facilities.

EDS-India to merge with MphasiS; ratio 4:5

IT services & BPO company MphasiS today said its board as well as the board of Electronic Data Systems (India) (EDS India) approved the merger of EDS India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of EDS, into MphasiS BFL.


The company said the swap ratio of the merger as determined by an independent valuation works out to 5:4 (5 shares of MphasiS for every 4 shares of EDS India). Through this merger, EDS' stake in MphasiS will increase to approximately 61.8% from about 51.4% at present.


The move is pending applicable approvals, and if approved will allow EDS to consolidate its operations in India, the company said. Steve Heidt, chairman of MphasiS & EDS vice president of service delivery operations, said, "This is the next step toward the integration of the operations of MphasiS and EDS. Essentially, we're creating a new family with EDS and MphasiS as one entity."

The Company has posted a net profit after tax of Rs 8143.80 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2006 as compared to Rs 4617.20 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2005. The Audited Consolidated results as per Indian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (IGAAP) are as follows:

The Group has posted a profit for the period of Rs 8313.90 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2006 as compared to Rs 4704.70 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2005. Sensex zooms 2%

Global Markets:
The Asian markets surged up today on good global cues. Hang Seng closed up +0.63%, TSEC closed up +0.49%, Nikkei closed up +1.42% and Sensex closed up +1.96%.
The European market closed up +0.35%.

Indian Market:
The positive global markets moved up Sensex during the opening hours and soon moved up +196 points and came down a bit but was maintaining 100+ points gain , RBI hiked the repo and reverse repo rate by 25 basis at about 12:00 which took Sensex to the days low of 10,303, but soon picked up. With good buying during the last trading hour moved Sensex up to 10,443 and finally settling down to close the day at 10,415 up +200 or +1.96%.


- BSE BANKEX surged up +4.12%, BSE Oil&Gas moved up by +2.10%, While BSE SmallCap, BSE MidCap and BSE Metal moved up +2% each.
- Out of the total 2468 stocks traded today 748 declined, 1644 advanced and 76 were unchanged.

Further the company has informed that Desire Lifestyle Pvt Ltd, Company incorporated under Companies Act, 1956, having its registered office in Mumbai, is engaged in the business of retailing of jewellery.

By way of this acquisition of shares, Desire Lifestyle Pvt Ltd has become a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company.

Satyam to Partner with GigaSpaces

Satyam Computer Services Ltd has announced that it has formed an alliance with GigaSpaces Technologies. The organizations will Join forces to provide end-to-end solutions for service-oriented architecture and grid environments.

Specifically, GigaSpaces will provide innovative software, while the Company will deliver leading implementation and IT services expertise in its partner’s software products. The results will include low-latency, scalable solutions that will be especially useful for companies that rely on high-volume transactional applications.

Bharat Earth Movers Q1 net up 21%

Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML) has announced the following Unaudited Results for the quarter ended June 30, 2006:

The Company has posted a net profit of Rs 150.10 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2006 as compared to Rs 124.10 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2005. Total Income (net of excise) has decreased from Rs 3827.90 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2005 to Rs 3437.60 million for quarter ended June 30, 2006.

The Board also recommended a Dividend of 100% on the paid-up capital inclusive of Interim Dividend of 30% already paid.

Zee Q1 Results

Zee Telefilms Ltd has announced the following Unaudited results for the quarter ended June 30, 2006:

The Group has posted a profit after tax of Rs 562.20 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2006 where as the same was at Rs 778.50 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2005. Total Income is Rs 4045.80 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2006 where as the same was at Rs 3250.40 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2005.

The Company's investment in 25 FPS Media Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary engaged in production of television programming for the Company, is intended to be disposed off. Accordingly, its financials are not consolidated in these results. Previous year's figures are also not comparable to that extent.

The global cues are looking great this morning, US markets closed up Yesterday on news of multibillion-dollar buyout of HCA Inc and upbeat earnings from a pair of drugmakers.
Down closed up +1.68% and Nasdaq also closed up by +2.05%.

This morning the Asian markets are in line with US stocks, currently Hang Seng is up +1.07%, Nikkei is up +1.83% and Taiwan Index is up +1.00%.

Bank stocks rally, Sensex up 129 points

Global Markets:
The Asian markets closed mixed today. Hang Seng closed up +0.10%, TSEC closed down -0.94%, Nikkei closed down -0.18% and Sensex closed up +1.28%.
The European market closed up +0.90%.

Indian Market:
With weakness in the global markets, the Sensex opened 44 points lower at 10,042. Continued selling saw the index plunge to a low of 9875 down -211 points from its previous close.
Recovery in Asian markets, coupled with buying in banking and technology shares, saw the index rebound into positive zone by early noon. The index flared up to a high of 10,253 up +378 points from the day's low. The Sensex finally ended with a gain of 129 points at 10,215.



- BSE BANKEX surged up +4.83%, BSE IT moved up by +1.70%, While BSE SmallCap closed down -1.17% and BSE MidCap closed down -0.45%.
- Out of the total 2424 stocks traded 1477 declined, 874 advanced and 73 were unchanged.

Weak global cues pull down Sensex , down -267 points

Global Markets:
The Asian markets closed down today. Hang Seng closed down -0.05%, TSEC closed down -0.37%, Nikkei closed up -0.84% and Sensex closed down -2.58%.
The European market closed down -0.34%.

Indian Market:
Sensex opened with weak global cues coming in and the dullness continued throughout the day. Huge selling was triggered by 12:00 which pulled Sensex top days low of 10,035, last hour buying in few stocks pulled Sensex a bit up and finally managed to close at 10,085.91 down -267.03 or -2.58%.

- Satyam Q1 net up 86%
- ITC Q1 net at 652 crore
- TATA Steel Q1 net at 10191 million
- Exide Q1 net up 57%


BSE FMCG slipped by -3.63%, BSE Metal slipped by -2.78%, While BSE SmallCap closed down -2.61% and BSE MidCap closed down -2.43%.

Exide Q1 net up 57%

Exide Industries Ltd has announced the following Unaudited results for the quarter ended June 30, 2006:

The Company has posted a net profit after tax of Rs 381.10 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2006 (Q1 FY 06-07) as compared to Rs 242.20 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2005 (Q1 FY 05-06). Total Income (net of excise) has increased from Rs 3289.90 million in Q1 FY 05-06 to Rs 4419.90 million for Q1 FY 06-07.

"Our continued focus on research and development that helps us bring out international quality customer centric products is once again reflected in this quarter's stellar performance," said Mr. S B Ganguly, executive chairman and chief executive officer of the Company.

The Group has posted a Profits after minority interest & share of profits of Associates of Rs 10191.80 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2006 (Q1 FY 06-07) as compared to Rs 9853.20 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2005 (Q1 FY 05-06). The Group has posted a profit after tax & Minority Interests of Rs 1211 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2006 (Q2 FY 06-07) as compared to Rs 1013 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2005 (Q2 FY 05-06). Total Income (net of excise) has increased from Rs 13704 million in Q2 FY 05-06 to Rs 14713 million for Q2 FY 06-07.

Gujarat Ambuja Q1 posts net at Rs 360cr

Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd has announced the following Unaudited Results for the quarter ended June 30, 2006:

The Group has posted a net profit (after minority interest) of Rs 3600.70 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2006 (Q1 FY 06-07) where as the same was at Rs 1711.80 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2005 (Q1 FY 05-06). Total Income (net of excise) is Rs 11444.10 million for Q1 FY 06-07 where as the same was at Rs 7579.10 million in Q1 FY 05-06.

The consolidated results for the current quarter and twelve months do not include result of Ambuja Cement India Ltd (ACIL), Ambuja Cement Eastern Ltd and Kakinada Cements Ltd, which have ceased to be subsidiaries of the Company. ACIL has since become an Associate of the Company and the share of profit of Associate has been recognised. Further, in the previous quarter the Company sold its investments in certain subsidiaries, joint ventures and an associate. Accordingly, results for the current quarter and twelve months are not strictly comparable with those of the corresponding period of the Previous year.

The group has posted a profit after tax attributable to Rs 1044.337 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2006 (Q1 FY 06-07) as compared to Rs 464.742 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2005 (Q1 FY 05-06). Total Income has increased from Rs 4555.125 million in Q1 FY 05-06 to Rs 7765.842 million for Q1 FY 06-07.

Godrej Consumer Products Q1 at 34 Crores

Godrej Consumer Products Ltd has announced the following Unaudited results for the quarter ended June 30, 2006:

The Company has posted a net profit of Rs 304.90 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2006 (Q1 FY 06-07) as compared to Rs 271.20 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2005 (Q1 FY 05-06). Total Income (net of excise) has increased from Rs 1679.60 million in Q1 FY 05-06 to Rs 1924.00 million for Q1 FY 06-07.

The Consolidated Results are as follows:

The Group has posted a net profit of Rs 341.30 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2006 (Q1 FY 06-07). Total Income (net of excise) is Rs 2384.40 million in Q1 FY 06-07.

Commenting on the results, Mr. Adi Godrej, Chairman and Managing Director, of the Company, said "I am pleased to report continuing growth on the back healthy operating performance. Our profitability continues to be strong despite a significant increase in investments in advertising and promotional activity. We have taken one more step towards establishing our presence in the global market with the acquisition of Rapidol South Africa. Domestically our expanded soap, hair colour and toiletry facilities which will be operational in FY07, will enable us cater to the healthy demand growth we are witnessing. I remain confident of GCPL's ability to maintain its strong growth momentum."

Reliance Q1 net up 10%

Reliance Industries Ltd has announced the following unaudited results for the quarter ended June 30, 2006:

The Company has posted a net profit of Rs 25470 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2006 (Q1 FY 06-07) as compared to Rs 23100 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2005 (Q1 FY 05-06). Total Income (net of excise) has increased from Rs 179780 million in Q1 FY 05-06 to Rs 245660 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2006 Q1 FY 06-07.

Down closed up +1.96% and Nasdaq also closed up by +1.83%.
